Memories of Cortina

Certain places are decidedly kissed by fortune. Besides an enviable logistic position, they acquire in time a particular fascination owing, for instance, to the fact that they are frequented by almost everyone who counts: writers, politicians, and everyone that creates an image, privileging a touristic place and rendering it ever more coveted, creating a particular aura all around it.

This is Cortina d’Ampezzo, for many years now “the pearl of the Dolomites”, destination of travelers from the bright life where it is difficult to find a place that stands out simply for its gastronomic offering, and not, instead, for its rooms with a view. Difficult, but not impossible, because this is what happened for 23 years at Walter and Donata’s restaurant. Word of its fame traveled quickly, and it hosted personages such as Luca Cordero of Montezemolo, Benetton, Marco Tronchetti Provera, Natuzzi, Barilla, Andrea Trombini, not to mention the faces of the world of show business like Marcello Mastroianni, Paolo Villaggio, Cristian De Sica, Alba Parietti, Deborah Caprioglio o Ezio Greggio. Their dishes enchanted the big names of Cortina tourism, in particular the writer Giorgio Soavi that dedicated a few of his stories to the “bavarese allo yogurt”.

To know this it would be sufficient to remember that the Michelin Star shines over Walter’s head since 1990 with initiatives that left their mark in time.
A fashionable place where the snobbiest clients of Cortina found a familiarly elegant corner.
